Camilo and Sara Gonzalez

Serving in Africa Lusophone | Africa

Camilo and Sara Gonzalez, along with their children, are newly assigned missionaries on the Lusophone Field on the Africa Region. They will serve as the Work & Witness Coordinators for Cape Verde.

Camilo is a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College with an Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences, with a focus on Construction. Sara is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing. Sara also completed a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing Leadership/Administration from Ball State University.

Growing up in Venezuela, Camilo worked closely with the missionaries there, learning about their ministry and becoming part of the work of the church in Venezuela. During this time working with missions as a teenager, he felt the Lord calling him into full time missions. Camilo has worked in commercial and residential construction, and he has served as the Music Minister and local Work & Witness Coordinator at Shelbyville First in Indiana. Camilo has served in missions in different world areas, including Venezuela, Mexico, and Guatemala.

Sara has served in various nursing roles professionally and in various capacities in her local church. She has served in nursing leadership, music ministry, as local NMI President, and on the District NMI Council. Sara felt the Lord calling her to mission service after her first W&W trip to Venezuela with her home church when she was in her first year of college. She began seeking how the Lord would use her in missions, joining more mission teams to serve in other countries as well, including returning to Venezuela. She has also served on medical teams to Guatemala and Nicaragua while in nursing school.

Camilo and Sara met in 2000 on a W&W trip. They married in 2002 and began working together with missions in Venezuela. They returned to the States at the end of 2003 and began their ministry in Indiana. Camilo and Sara together led a local team from Indiana on a mission trip to Guatemala, and have also served together in local W&W. They have 3 children that join them in ministry. Landon is 13 and enjoys soccer, reading, and working with his dad. Kyle is an adventurous 10 year old who loves reading, soccer, drawing, and sword-fighting with everything, as he can make anything into a weapon for play. Adriana, at age 7, is a social butterfly that loves soccer, singing, and keeping up with her brothers. The Gonzalez family has a passion for missions and is excited to see how the Lord continues to use them in ministry.

Going Where the Church is Not Yet

Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed. Reaching these people begins with one step, a step of obedience and faithfulness that says yes to God’s call. Take your first step and start your journey toward serving in missions today.
