Myrza and Marco Velasco

Serving in MAR Central | Mesoamerica

Myrza Alvarado is originally from Sonora, Mexico in northern Mexico and Marco Velasco from Chiapas, Southern Mexico. They met in a Church of the Nazarene, in Ensenada, Baja California on 1982. They married on April 11, 1987. They have two children: David and Ana Myrza.
Their pastoral ministry was developed in two parts:

  • First, in Ensenada, Baja, Mexico from 1987-2004 as a pastor of the Church of the Nazarene "Ebenezer", and as Academic Dean of the Nazarene Bible Institute today Mexican Nazarene Seminary, Campus Tecate.
  • A second part of the ministry was in Chiapas, Mexico from 2004 to 2017 as co-pastor of the Third Church of Tuxtla, in the Southern District of Mexico in collaboration with Pbro. Fredi Arreola, and as Director of the Mexican Nazarene Seminary Campus Tuxtla 2015-2017.

Myrza during this second stage developed the Children's Ministry with the Children's Church and the Children's Choir of the local church. She studied music at the Northwest Nazarene Biblical Institute (1992), and she graduated in Associate of Arts, Music and Worship. She was the Music Minister of our church Ebenezer (1990-2014). She coursed different music seminars at the School of Music in Ensenada, BC, Mexico (2000). She has taken diplomas in Secretary, Computing and Childhood and Family.

For Marco, studies have advanced along with his pastoral and academic development, in a complementary way. Initially he started with the Bachelor in Theology (1986); Master of Arts (1995, Point Loma); Lic. Sociology (2001, UABC); Master's Degree in Family Counseling (2013, SENDAS); and Doctorate in Ministry (2017, NTS).
After 27 years of Pastoral Ministry they dreamed of being able to dedicate themselves to full-time teaching. And since May 2017, they began a new stage and adventure in the ministry by being part of SENDAS with a special assignment in Theological Teaching.

Both appreciate this great service opportunity through Global Mission.

To God be the glory and honor!

Going Where the Church is Not Yet

Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed. Reaching these people begins with one step, a step of obedience and faithfulness that says yes to God’s call. Take your first step and start your journey toward serving in missions today.
